What is starter pack and how to use it?

The OTT Starter Pack is the introductory learning bundle included in your membership.

It provides a structured overview of the core concepts that shape the work of think tanks globally. Rather than offering tools or step-by-step guidance, it focuses on building a shared conceptual foundation.

Across four short modules, you will explore:

  • What think tanks are and how the sector functions

  • What makes research policy-relevant

  • How research contributes to policy influence and public debate

  • How think tanks sustain themselves organisationally

This pack is designed to help you engage more deeply with the short courses, live Q&A sessions and additional resources available through the membership. It ensures that all members begin with a common understanding of key ideas and debates in the sector.

Estimated time: 90 minutes (self-paced).

How to use this starter pack

This starter pack is designed to be flexible and self-paced.

You may:

  • Complete it in one sitting as an orientation

  • Work through one module at a time

  • Return to specific sections as you engage with future membership content

We recommend reviewing this pack early in your membership experience. It will provide context and conceptual clarity that will enrich your participation in short courses and live discussions.

As you move forward, you may find it useful to revisit certain sections when reflecting on your own organisation, projects or professional role.
